M.A. Pastoral Counseling
(Emphasis in Marriage & Family)
With a background as a missionary wife, home-schooling mother, as well as being a missionary herself, Marinajo empathizes with the challenges that a ministry family is faced with. Her experience provides a unique perspective as a counselor regarding the marriage and family dynamics of those in ministry. She also understands how juggling multiple roles, both inside and outside of one’s comfort-zone, for the sake of ministry can be both invigorating and exhausting. Some of her own ministry experience includes leading praise and worship, hospitality, children’s ministry director, bible study teacher, mentor, and a mission hospital’s eyeglass clinic manager. She has also had the opportunity to teach, speak, and lead at both women’s and missionary conferences.
Marinajo’s interests and specialties in counseling lie in strengthening marriages and family relations, especially as they relate to women, both young and old, who struggle with family of origin issues, shame, and sexual abuse. Her heart is to lead them to the heart of the gospel for their healing and to flourish as they discover their worth and identity in Christ. Struggling with chronic pain herself, she hopes to encourage others who live with it toward a hope-filled, gospel-focused lifestyle.
Having been a missionary for over 15 years, she empathizes with the struggles of leaving family, security, and comfort for the sake of the Gospel. Her hope, along with her husband, Dave, is to provide training and counsel that will equip, reassure, and strengthen the missionaries and their families.
Marinajo and her husband, Dave, who is also a counselor with BetterDays, are available to counsel together as a couple with other couples and their families.
Marinajo has been married to Dave Fields since 1990 and lives in the Kingwood, TX area. They are empty nesters now with two adult children who live in Nashville, TN. Marinajo has enjoyed music since her childhood and has a passion for praise and worship, hospitality, and coffee. She was a homeschooling mother on the mission field, where she and her family lived in community with a number of different Christian families over the years. It was during these years that she learned more about her identity in Christ than in any other time in her life. She longs to serve others in the roles of trusted friend and counselor and see Jesus glorified.
